This blog was supposed to be the 1-800-IDONTCAREHOWMUCHITCOSTSJUSTFIXITGETITDONEGETITDONERIGHT!!!
Yes, the saga of the closet. This one has a story. Funny? Now that we're on this side.... yes.
As you know from my blog, I openly admit that I am addicted to all things home, including HGTV. Well, apparently I was binging too much on HGTV and watching Don't sweat it, hammerheads, carter can, ect... (what I SHOULD of been watching was OVER YOUR HEAD) and yes, these are all actual names of shows on HGTV.
We have a spare room designated in our house that I laid claim to before the house was even in escrow - it was my craft room/pantry. I designated the open space where a closet was supposed to be as the space for the pantry (meaning food storage). I decided that I could make some custom shelving that would fit in exactly utilizing the maximum space of course. I was pumped. I was doing this on my own. I didn't tell anyone. It was going to be my surprise to Brian that yes, I could do this on my own (1st mistake), that I could be some sort of wonder woman with the hammer and nails (mistake #2). After all, if they can do it on TV, so can I, right? (DEFINITE mistake #3). So I went to Lowes, proudly had them custom cut some ponderosa pine panels (aka non-returnable) and also some boards that were to support my panels. Well, it was going fine until...... the studs were just not showing up where they were supposed to. I guess that's one of the downfalls of tract housing. So needless to say, the wall started to get torn up trying to find them. Yes, I own a stud finder, although I will admit I just got a nice souped up one the other day to help in future projects as the 5 dollar ones just don't cut it! And apparently neither does measuring 16 inches either!!!
So, I think I got one or two on, but the other ones just weren't working. Brian ended up trying to get the others on (reluctant I must add to this project that I just threw him into, understandably) and it still wasn't working. Finally after watching the wall get torn up some more he finally threw up his hands and said he wasn't touching it anymore and neither was I.
Enough said. He said I don't care how much it costs, just get it done, and get it done right!
Well, before closetworld came into the picture, I decided to try one of those cool food storage rotation systems from shelf reliance. i ordered it from costco, that way if it didn't work out i could return it. Well, it turned into a nightmare. While I admit these systems are pretty cool.....trying to assemble them by yourself is NOT. No tools required??? Well, after trying to meander this thing around, bars kept popping off (IF YOU LIVE IN UTAH, IT IS WELL WORTH THE 19.99 FOR THEM TO INSTALL) and one of the top bars ended up popping off and landed on my head. My head hurt in that spot for almost a week! Costco return line it is.
1-800-closetworld please! So, the lady came over, took her 3 hours to get the design done as well as the desk that I decided to add on as well. So, here is the finished result!

Next time call me. I've done pleanty of home projects with my dad and I know my way around a hammer pretty well. It looks great though and I'm sure much nicer than you originally expected. Can't wait to come over and see it.
That is awesome. I have A LOT of holes hiding behind things in my house...
I hope this isn't a sign...I've got a project like that waiting for me. I want to make this unusable corner into a closet. I've come to find out with other projects that walls aren't straight (so I have to have my husband recut the boards I've had Home Depot cut for me.)
